The Seymour baseball team opened its season in grand style Saturday with 26-0 and 25-0 wins against Emmerich Manual of Indianapolis.

Between games, Seymour’s diamond was officially named American Legion Field. American Legion Post 89 officials, Seymour coach Jeremy Richey and athletics director Brandon Harpe took part in the ceremony.

“It was huge for us,” Richey said of the American Legion putting up money to help make improvements to the field. “It was nice to see a bunch of former players from a bunch of different years come out here and be supportive of the Legion, who has been extremely supportive of us and provided us the opportunity to make the field the way that it is.
