Seymour’s girls basketball team gave Castle all it could in Saturday afternoon’s Bedford North Lawrence Tournament pool game, but the Owls lost 44-36.
About two and a half hours later, they had to play Martinsville in the third-place game, and they couldn’t get anything rolling and lost 69-34.
“I don’t know if the first game kind of took it out of us a little bit, but we have to do a better job of coming back,” Owls coach Jason Longmeier said. “We were right there in game one but couldn’t get the win. And then in game two, it was the opposite. We didn’t come out with the energy that we needed to have.
“At the end when the lead started getting pushed, we have no energy, and the confidence starts to go down. But we are much better than what we showed today.”
Castle had four players between 6 foot and 6-foot-4. Seymour’s tallest players are 5-11. But the Owls used their speed and aggressiveness to hang with the Knights, only trailing 13-11 after one quarter and 20-16 at halftime.
