For most of Monday night’s Hoosier Hills Conference match against Madison, members of the Seymour girls soccer team were cheering on the seniors.

Eight girls were honored before the match for Senior Night, and every time the Owls got a run toward the goal — which was quite often — the underclassmen on the sidelines were chanting the girls’ names, hoping they would score.

None of the seniors scored, but one of them, Lindsay Swindell, assisted on one of Clare Lenart’s two goals, and Seymour won 4-0.

In the first half, Lenart received the ball near midfield, dribbled all the way and scored at 24:43 for a 1-0 lead. About nine minutes later, Lenart kicked the ball toward the goal from the right side, and the ball rolled off of a Madison player’s back and to the feet of Gabriela Martins, who shot the ball past Cubs goalkeeper Tess Lemen for a 2-0 lead.
