Sophomore strong for Seymour in team loss with win in vault event

COLUMBUS

Although Seymour gymnast Alyssa Goen finished third in all-around against No. 10-ranked Columbus East, the Owls struggled at times during Saturday’s meet, which finished with a 105.25-93.45 loss to the host Olympians.

“I think our girls did OK today, especially when we changed and added more skillful stuff to some of our routines on Thursday,” Seymour coach Angie Mellencamp said. “We had a lot of falls today on the floor and on the bars. We are just not hitting 100 percent out there.”

Goen, a sophomore, had an all-around score of 34.2. She tied East freshman Becca Bryan for first on vault with 8.8, and she was third on bars with 8.5 and second on floor with 9.4 but scored 7.5 on beam.
