Adam Wolka finished as runner-up in the 285-pound division in this winter’s Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament and sectional, and he made a return trip to semistate.
His goal last year and this year was to make it to the state finals, and he fell short both times, losing in the first round of semistate and finishing 28-12 as a junior and 29-9 as a senior.
Both times, though, it didn’t define his season, and it didn’t define his career.
For all that he accomplished, Wolka is The Tribune’s Athlete of the Year for wrestling.
“I feel like I was pretty ready for the postseason, especially right before sectional, it just felt really good for me,” Wolka said. “We studied our opponents really hard, and I felt like I could be able to get it done (and get to state).”
