After Friday night’s intrasquad scrimmage at Bulleit Stadium, coach Jeff Richey said he could definitely tell that the returning veterans on his Seymour football team put in a lot of time on the practice field and hard work in the weight room this summer.
“I think the guys we expected to do well did pretty well,” Richey said after the White team outscored the Purple team 26-12.
“Right now, our first groups are not too bad,” he said. “They understand what we’re trying to do, they understand the purpose of the things we’re trying to get taken care of.”
Austin Sutton threw a 20-yard pass to Tanner Belcher midway through the first period for the White’s first score and the only points of the first half.
In the third period, Isaiah Thomas scored on a 6-yard run, Tyler Akers scored on a 10-yard run, and Logan Richey caught a pass from Sutton on a 2-point conversion for a 20-0 game going into the final period.
Caleb Monroe lit up the Purple team’s side of the scoreboard with a pair of 10-yard runs, and Belcher closed out the scoring for the White team with a 7-yard pass from Corban Ruch.
