The temperature inside and outside of the gymnasiums was hot during Saturday’s Brownstown Central Invitational.
Five of the eight teams in the volleyball tournament are among the state rankings, and Class 4A No. 7 Seymour sizzled.
The Owls won all three of their pool matches in straight sets, and then rallied to win the first set of the championship match against 4A No. 6 Columbus East 26-24 before dominating the second set 25-13 for the their second invitational title of the season.
“This team was extremely focused today, even through the heat,” Owls coach Angie Lucas said. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of them because this is tough conditions, and we practice in this, so it helps because we’re used to this. But we did not have a letdown at all in that game, and it was just a matter of we have great senior leadership. Our seniors absolutely took care of that match, and it’s good to see.”
