Jackson County Water Utility has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for its customers in Brownstown south of U.S. 50 due to an outage that occurred Sunday morning.
Affected customers include those along South Main Street, South Poplar Street, Stephanie Drive, Steinkamp Street, Cummings Street and Kimberly Drive.
Utility manager Darrell Baker said water service has been restored, but customers are advised to boil all water vigorously for at least five minutes and allow time to cool before drinking or using for cooking.
"Boiling prior to use for other purposes is not necessary so long as the water is not consumed," he said.
The advisory will be in effect until utility officials can confirm through testing that bacteria is not present. Testing should be completed within three days, Baker said.
"At that time, customers will be advised if the boil order is to remain in effect or if further action is necessary in response to the test results," he added.
For information, customers can call the utility at 358-3654.
