Police: Gunman served time for sexual assault

A man accused of shooting a Jackson County deputy on Thursday was on parole after serving less than one year in prison on a sexual assault conviction and was barred from possessing a firearm.

Isiah T. Roger, 18, Brownstown, who was shot by return fire from Officer Rick Meyer, has been out of prison for less than three months, according to public records.

A second man involved in the incident Thursday, Alexandrew L. Mullikin, 21, Vernon, was wanted on a Jennings Circuit Court warrant on charges of auto theft and false informing, according to the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office. He was arrested on that warrant and remained in the Jackson County Jail on Friday night.
