Jackson County Sheriff's Department is urging motorists to be cautious when heading to work or other appointments Friday morning.
A dispatcher reported few problems with traffic navigating area roads but cautioned that there may be a sheet of ice beneath what appears to a cover of snow.
All Jackson County schools are closed Friday because of the weather.
Seymour saw the accumulation of about an inch of snow overnight Thursday following a rainfall that briefly turned into ice.
A check with Duke Energy and Jackson County REMC websites show no problems with power outages in the region.
A forecast at 4:01 a.m. Friday from the National Weather Service says the area could still receive 5 to 8 inches of snow through tonight as a winter storm warning continues until midnight.
Another round of snow, ice and rain is expected to hit the area Sunday.
