Police warn residents of hospital phone scam

Schneck Medical Center reports an area resident received a call from someone falsely claiming to represent the hospital in an effort to obtain confidential information.

The hospital and police warn people to use common sense and not give out any personal information over the telephone.

“The caller is requesting personal information to register the customer for future hospital services such as procedures and appointments,” hospital spokeswoman Stephanie Furlow said. “The caller is then asking for the individual’s Social Security number and date of birth.”
