Braves, Cougars run at Bedford Invitational
Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran were among the 24 girls teams and 28 boys squads in Saturday’s Ted Fox Memorial Invitational at Bedford.
In the girls meet, Brownstown placed 14th with 362 points (led by Kari Brown, 60th, 22:04), and Trinity was 23rd with 642 (led by Brittaney VonDielingen, 24:42).
The Brownstown boys, who finished 16th with 378 points, were paced by Ryan Franklin’s 32nd-place showing in 16:59. The Trinity boys were 24th with 673 points.
Avon’s seventh-ranked girls and 16th-ranked boys and took the titles with 42 and 52 points, respectively.
1 goal not enough to get Seymour past Franklin
The Seymour girls soccer team’s three-match winning streak was halted on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Franklin.
The Owls’ only goal was by Clare Lenart 10 minutes into the second half. Franklin outshot Seymour (8-3-2) 15-11, and Owls goalkeeper Kelley Sharp made 10 saves.
Late Heritage Hills goal snaps Seymour’s streak
Heritage Hills scored with six minutes to go in Saturday’s boys soccer match at home against Seymour, and that held up for a 1-0 win.
The loss snapped Seymour’s three-game winning streak, putting the Owls at 7-6-1.
