For the past four years, sixth-graders attending the Seymour Middle School Sixth Grade Center have had the chance to do more than learn from their textbooks about the sacrifices this country’s veterans have made for freedom.
“They get the chance to see people in uniforms, and that makes it more real for them,” Vice Principal Becky Davis said of the school’s annual Veterans Day program.
Because of inclement weather, that program took place Monday inside the school’s gymnasium instead of at the Seymour Veterans Memorial, a block from the school at Gaiser Park.
Davis said older children who have participated in the program in past years remember the day because they had a chance to go to the park and sing patriotic songs.
