In Kathee Smith’s special needs classroom at Emerson Elementary School, the senses play an important role.

Bright colors and pictures help students identify how loud or quiet they should be, toys to touch and hold are available when a student is feeling anxious and a sit-and-spin seat helps fulfill their motion sensory needs.

A row of iPads awaits students to exercise their minds and senses of sight, sound and touch.
