The main street of Jackson County’s oldest town recently received a little sprucing up with some new street signs.

The project in Vallonia — which had been considered as a possible location for the state capital nearly two centuries ago — was completed by some of the men of the community who were helped by a shop class at Brownstown Central High School.

Dan Schwartz, the teacher of that class, said he had a class of 14 students in woodshop this spring, but most of the work to make the 40 new signs was completed by five of those students.
