Property tax appeals process focus in assessor race

Both candidates vying for the Democratic Party’s nomination for Jackson County assessor want to help the county and its four municipalities fight the growing loss of revenue to the property tax appeals process.

It’s an issue that every assessor across the state has had to address, incumbent Bev Gaiter of Browns-town said.

Gaiter, who has been assessor since 1990, faces a challenge from political newcomer Kay Schwade of Seymour.
