For many in the area, the name Edgar Hackman stirs thoughts of the Jackson County Fair.

Hackman, 89, died Saturday at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

The retired Seymour Community Schools teacher was a longtime volunteer with the county fair at Brownstown as well as the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.

Seymour resident Marion Reinbold, who joined the county fair board in 1978, recalled Hackman as a man dedicated to staging the best fair possible.

“Edgar started working out at the fairgrounds 10 or 11 years before he ever went on the board, and he worked throughout the grounds helping anybody who needed any help,” Reinbold said Monday. “He was just a hard-working individual.”
