Revolutionary daughters gather for Christmas dinner

The Fort Vallonia chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution gathered Dec. 12 for a Christmas dinner at the Seymour Elks Club.

After the meal and conversation, members and their guests experienced childhood nostalgia with the history of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, presented by chapter member Billie Wintin. This included a recording of the original song by Gene Autry and a reading of the original 1939 story of the famous deer that guides Santa’s sleigh on foggy nights.

The 1939 story was written in verse, and the events leading up to Santa selecting Rudolph to guide his sleigh are a bit different than those in the classic TV show filmed in 1964.
