Indiana State Police are warning area motorists that roads are starting to become slick.
"As the snow continues to fall in southeastern and south central Indiana, the roadways are beginning to become slick and hazardous," Sgt. Noel Houze said. "Motorists are urged to use caution and avoid unnecessary travel."
Residents are asked to avoid calling state, county or local law enforcement dispatch centers for travel conditions. For the latest information regarding road conditions in your area, visit the Indiana Department of Transportation website "Traffic Wise" at www.TrafficWise.in.gov.
Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported it had received no calls reporting wrecks as of 9:30 a.m.
Heavier snow and ice was reported in areas north of Jackson County, but more ice could be making its way south in the next few hours, police said.
