As long as he can remember, Alex Beaty said he has liked running.

The Seymour senior is in his fourth season of cross-country, and the spring will be his third season of track and field.

“I’ve always had the energy for running, and I’ve found the time,” he said.

This fall, Beaty has been running in the No. 5 position.

“I want to get to No. 3. It’s going to take more hard work and dedication. I’ve got to step it up,” he said.

Beaty’s best time of the season is the 17:58 he ran this past weekend at the FlashRock Invitational.

“My goal is to get below 16:30 to get a scholarship for college,” he said. “My time really improved (the last two meets). Cool weather really helps.”

Beaty said he has learned how to pace himself through experience.
