A 39-year-old Scott County man was formally charged Tuesday with murder in connection with a body found last week in a vacant building in Austin.
Robert L. Riley Jr. of 586 W. Main St. in Austin faces an April 16, 2013, trial date in Scott Circuit Court.
Riley's initial hearing took place Tuesday afternoon in Scottsburg. He was charged with murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, altering the scene of a death and obstruction of justice.
His arrest stems from an investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Department that began Nov. 20. That's when police, acting on a tip, found the remains that Sheriff Dan McClain later said he believes are of Paul Graupe, 50, an Austin man who went missing Nov. 24, 2009. McClain said Riley told investigators that he stabbed Graupe and hid his body.
