Rita Bennett moved out of Jackson County once, but it was a move that proved to be short-lived.

The move came after the Medora native decided she wanted to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, just a short hour’s drive from home.

It was still too far.

“I went an hour away to school, and I cried every day,” the 1983 graduate of Medora High School said. “Bloomington seemed so much farther away then.”

After that trying first year in college, Bennett decided to come back home and go to Ivy Tech Community College to get her degree to be a medical assistant.
