The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to open new routing for Base Road north of U.S. 50 near Jennings County Road 400W on or after July 11.
At the same time, the old wooden bridge carrying existing Base Road over the CSX Transportation railroad tracks will close for demolition. Access for residents will be maintained.
The newly paved Base Road is part of Phase I of the $21.9 million bypass project at North Vernon. Phase I plans call for a new two-lane 4.5-mile partial bypass connecting existing U.S. 50 near County Road 400W with State Road 3 in North Vernon.
