A 47-year-old Tennessee truck driver died early Friday in a crash on Interstate 65 in southern Jackson County.

Lazaro A. Melendez of Antioch, Tenn., died in the crash reported at 2:30 a.m. Friday on I-65 at U.S. 31 south of Crothersville, according to a news release from Sgt. Noel Houze with the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles.

Melendez was driving a 2013 Peterbilt tractor pulling a 53-foot semitrailer northbound when the wreck occurred, Trooper Matt Holley said.

Holley said as the semi crossed the bridge on I-65 over U.S. 31, Melendez lost control on the snow- and ice-covered roadway. The vehicle then struck the guardrail and went between the guardrail and the concrete bridge barrier on the northbound side.
