Sentencing for fatal crash delayed

The sentencing hearing for a Scott County man involved in the death of a Seymour teen was rescheduled to 8:30 a.m. April 2 in Jackson Circuit Court.

Garan Alexander Terrell, 19, of Austin, had been scheduled to be sentenced Monday during an open plea for causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance, a Class C felony. That charge stems from an incident in September 2012 that led to the death of Danika Collins, 17, of Seymour.

The hearing was reset because Terrell is being held at the Scott County Jail in Scottsburg on an unrelated charge and was not returned to Jackson County in time for Monday’s hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Chalfant said. He said a mix-up in scheduling led to Terrell not being brought to Jackson County in time for Monday’s hearing.
