Seymour’s boys soccer match against Centerville in Saturday’s Batesville Invitational ended at 2-2 in regulation and wound up going to penalty kicks, which Seymour won 4-2.
Centerville took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the second half, but Seymour responded a minute later when Fernando Cervantes scored on an assist from Ansgar Wiechert.
Wiechert assisted Jordan Jones on a goal for a 2-1 lead with three minutes to go, but the Owls gave up a goal with a minute and a half left.
After neither team scored in overtime, Wiechert and Carlos Pacheco connected on Seymour’s first two penalty kicks, and goalkeeper Chase Salmon made a save on Centerville’s second attempt. Each team found the back of the net on their third attempts, with Cervantes coming through for Seymour.
The Owls didn’t make their fourth attempt, but Centerville did, and then Logan Mead connected for Seymour, while Centerville missed.
Batesville shut out Morristown 7-0 in the other matchup, but the third-place and championship matches were postponed because of the weather. The makeup date will be announced soon.
