Seymour’s girls tennis team didn’t have too much trouble dispatching Scottsburg 4-1 for the third time this season in Thursday’s sectional semifinals on its home courts.
Brownstown Central, on the other hand, trailed Austin 2-0 and had to wait for the results from the final three matches that went three sets.
In the end, Austin rallied for a third-set win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the match, while Brownstown won the other two tight three-setters. So Austin advances to play Seymour in today’s championship match.
“It was good for the girls to come out ready to play,” Owls coach Nathan Otte said of his team winning in straight sets at four positions. “It’s always difficult to beat the same team three times in a season. Scottsburg had a lot of motivation, and they had a couple of very tight matches at 1 singles and 2 doubles, so they really pushed us and stretched us there.”
