Angie Lucas said she got into coaching not only to help mold high school girls into better people, but also to make them better volleyball players, and not necessarily for the wins involved.
Lucas reached a milestone on Saturday when she picked up her 500th win as Seymour coach with a 25-14, 25-18 victory against Bedford North Lawrence in the Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium.
Later in the day, she coached the Owls to a 25-8, 25-22 win against Madison that pushed Seymour’s record against Hoosier Hills Conference teams to 8-0 and its home record to 6-0.
“I guess (her husband, Tom Lucas) knew the numbers, and I really don’t look into that that much,” she said. “To me, 500 is just a number. I don’t think of it much. It’s the experience that makes the big difference for me. Sure, it’s wonderful, it’s nice, but it’s just more important that we got two wins from conference teams.”
