Alex Berry at No. 3 singles and Seth Stuckwisch and Andrew Rudge were Seymour’s only first-round winners in Saturday’s Shelbyville Invitational, where the Owls scored five points for sixth place.
Berry defeated Richmond’s Max Van Buskirk 7-6 (5), 7-5 before falling to Columbus East’s Alex Pegram 6-1, 6-1.
Stuckwisch and Rudge fought off Heritage Christian’s Josh Rothbard and John Bickle 7-6 (2), 7-5. Then against Bloomington North’s Jake Barrett and Charlie Ryan, the Owls duo lost 7-5 before winning 6-4, but they lost the super tiebreaker 10-6.
The Owls’ other point came from Ben Coomer at No. 2 singles. He lost 6-0, 6-2 in the first round but rebounded with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 win over Jennings County’s Owen Land.
