A 51-year-old Jackson County man accused of possessing child pornography was arrested Friday.

Armando Gallardo of Seymour was arrested for nine counts of possession of child pornography.

Seymour Detective Greg O’Brien said Tuesday that Gallardo’s arrest stems from an incident in which Gallardo took a computer hard drive to a computer store to have some of its contents, including photographs and videos, transferred to a zip drive.

“They noticed the pornography and called police,” O’Brien said of the computer store employees. The arrest of Gallardo is the fourth made in recent years by Seymour Police Department under similar circumstances involving attempts to transfer child pornography from computers, O’Brien said.

Possession of child pornography is a Class D felony, punishable by six months to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

O’Brien said Gallardo is accused of possessing child pornography instead of producing it, which would be a Class C felony.

The materials do not contain images of local children.

“He downloaded it all off the Internet,” O’Brien said.

Gallardo, who has yet to appear in Jackson Circuit Court for an initial hearing, was booked Friday into Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

On Friday, he posted a $1,005 bond for a writ of attachment and $1,005 bonds for each of the nine counts of possession of pornography.
