Seymour man sentenced to 70 years in prison


A Jennings County judge has sentenced a Seymour man to 70 years in prison for killing his ex-wife and shooting her daughter.

James Daryl Sowder, 64, was sentenced Friday to two consecutive 35-year sentences for manslaughter and burglary by Jennings Circuit Court Judge Jon Webster, according to Jennings County Prosecutor Alan L. Marshall.

He originally was charged with murder and attempted murder in the July 29, 2012, shooting that killed 64-year-old Candice Sowder and seriously wounded her then-42-year-old daughter, Regina Johnson.
