Cummins Inc. will lay off 150 workers at the end of this year from factories in Seymour and Bartholomew County, the company said Wednesday.

It also will shift 126 workers from Seymour Engine Plant and its Fuel Systems Plant in Columbus to its Columbus Midrange Engine Plant.

Seymour Engine Plant employs 450 workers, according to the company. It employs 7,700 in southern Indiana, with the majority in Columbus. Worldwide, Cummins employed 46,200 in early September.

The number of workers to be laid off and transferred from the Seymour plant off East Fourth Street was not available Wednesday afternoon, according to Jon Mills, director of external communications at Cummins.
