Winning a Hoosier Hills Conference wrestling title for the first time set Seymour High School senior Matthew Ruddick up for a solid postseason run.

The 145-pounder won sectional and regional titles for the first time, and then he defeated Northview’s Jacob Hendrich 10-0 in the first round of the semistate. He then just needed one more win to receive his first trip to the IHSAA State Finals.

Ruddick fell behind Princeton’s Korbin Karges and then fought back, but it wasn’t enough as he lost 8-6.
