Alex Hawkins' high school swimming career came to an end during Friday's girls state finals preliminaries at the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI.
The Seymour senior placed 29th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.47. She was seeded 30th at 1:00.90, which is the school record.
Carmel sophomore Claire Adams was the top finisher at 53.38. That bested the state-record time of 53.40 she set in winning last year's title.
The top 16 will return for competition today. Those finishing ninth through 16th will swim in the consolation heats, and the top eight will vie for state championship honors.
The meet starts at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live at IHSAAtv.org.
It was Hawkins' second trip to the state finals, as she competed in the 200-yard medley relay as a freshman.
