Marley Vehslage gave up only one game to Brownstown Central’s Brooke Hattabaugh at No. 2 singles to set the tone for Seymour’s girls tennis team in Saturday’s county rivalry match.

Emma Wood collected a 6-3, 6-2 win over Brownstown’s Kelly Martin at No. 3 singles, and Seymour won both doubles matches in straight sets. Brownstown’s only win was by Calan Blevins at No. 1 singles.

“We were happy to see, for the first time all season, that Marley Vehslage was off the court first with a win in two sets,” Owls coach Jennifer Miller said. “It is a positive step in the right direction for her to win a solid match at 2 with a consistent offense that worked for her.”

Miller also is seeing good things out of Wood, a freshman.
