Shifting missions: Area weighs economic ripple effects

A change from Camp Atterbury’s mission of preparing soldiers for war to peacetime training might mean fewer full hotels on some days in the Seymour area in the short term.

But the long-term outlook for the economic impact of Camp Atterbury here remains positive, Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman said Wednesday afternoon.

“They’re not going to close it,” Luedeman said of Camp Atterbury, which is located in southern Johnson County near Edinburgh.
