Several Medora residents weren’t too happy with a New York Times article in November 2009 that told the story of the struggling Medora High School boys basketball team and portrayed the town in what some considered a negative light.
Andrew Cohn read that article and realized that, while some things may have been true, there was another side about small towns that needed to be told. Cohn’s mother grew up in an Indiana town even smaller than Medora, and he wanted to try to bring out the full picture.
Cohn and Davy Rothbart traveled from New York to Medora and met with school officials about filming a documentary centered on the boys basketball team, which didn’t win a game in the 2008-09 season and then won only two games the next winter.
