Indiana Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 65 in Jackson County.
Sheriff Mike Carothers said 10 vehicles were reported off the road or wrecked near the 55-mile marker, five miles north of Seymour.
Ambulances have been dispatched to that area, but Carothers said he was unsure of the extent and number of injuries.
Police scanner reports indicated the state was closing I-65 from Columbus to Scottsburg.
"The blowing snow is what's causing the problems," Carothers said. "It's white-out conditions at times and it's causing drifting and ice on the roads."
