After going 0-2 in the Lutheran Basketball Association of America National Tournament of Champions last year, the St. John’s Sauers Lutheran School girls basketball team wanted a better showing this year.
The Raiders did just that over the weekend, defeating Lincoln Lutheran (Lincoln, Neb.) 20-8, Zion Lutheran (Mayer, Minn.) 31-25 and St. Paul’s Lutheran (West Allis, Wis.) 43-31 in their first three games.
Then in the semifinals of the 32-team tournament at Valparaiso University, the Raiders suffered a 35-33 loss in overtime to St. Michael Lutheran (Fort Myers, Fla.), which went on to defeat Our Redeemer (Wauwatosa, Wis.) 46-38 in the championship game.
