A couple of years ago, one of the Kentucky-Indiana Volleyball Academy teams was in need of a setter.
The coaches had heard about Seymour High School’s Jessica Lucas, so they went to the Lady Owls’ match against Brownstown Central.
They apparently liked what they saw and thought she would be the perfect fit.
Lucas, who will be a junior in the fall, recently wrapped up her second year with KIVA. After placing fifth in its division last year at the AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships, the 17 Red Team returned to Orlando, Fla., this year and went 11-1 during the four-day tournament and finished third in the nation in the Open Division, which is the highest level of play.
Lucas’ coach nominated her for the AAU All-American Team, which consists of only 14 girls out of nearly 800. The other coaches apparently liked what they saw because Lucas was one of the 14 selected.
