The Seymour girls basketball team found out firsthand Thursday night why Bedford North Lawrence is No. 2 in Class 4A.
The Stars flexed their muscles in the fourth quarter and pulled away for the 58-41 Hoosier Hills Conference win.
BNL (21-0) claimed the HHC championship outright with a perfect 7-0 record, while Seymour (9-12) finished 3-4.
Taylor Gossett hit a basket for the Owls in the third quarter to give them a 24-22 lead, but Dominique McBryde and Brittani Rizzi hit consecutive 3-pointers. The Stars opened a double-digit lead, and the Owls never recovered.
“I just think they made some baskets in the second half,” Owls coach Jason Longmeier said. “We talked about it at halftime a little bit that they are an offensive team. The one thing I told them at halftime is that the shots they were missing in the first half, they were going to knock down in the second half.
