Stores’ holiday closings hamper area rush for pre-storm stockpiling

Closed Christmas Day, area grocers missed out on much of the pre-storm rush for milk and bread ahead of Wednesday’s storm that dumped a mix of rain, sleet and snow across Jackson County.

But Walgreen’s manager Joshua Sharp said Wednesday the Seymour store sold out of bread, milk and other staples while open until 6 p.m. Christmas Day. The store also sold a lot of salt and ice scrapers.

“A substantial percent of our sales were based on the threat of the weather,” Sharp said.
