Jackson County United Way is seeking volunteers for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The agency is gearing up to kick off the fifth Volunteer Income Tax Assistance season starting in late January. It needs volunteers to serve individuals and families with a household income of $52,000 or less.

Since the program began in Jackson County in 2010, more than 40 volunteers have helped file 569 tax returns in the community. This volunteer service has brought in $781,612 in federal returns and $106,244 in state returns by the individuals who used the program.
