Jackson County Community Theatre will conduct auditions for the February dinner theater show, “A Slice of the Blarney,” at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Royal Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown.
Parts are available for three men, three women, and one who could be either. Characters to be cast are Shannon O’Leary, in his 60s, a crotchety old man; Douglas O’Leary, 40s to 50s, Shannon’s brother, a loudmouth; Katie O’Leary, 20s, Shannon’s youngest daughter, sweet and caring; Arlene O’Leary, Shannon’s headstrong ex-wife in her 50s; Sharon O’Leary, 30s, Shannon’s daughter, gypsy-like, fun, thinks she’s psychic; Patrick O’Leary, 20s, Shannon’s son with a chip on his shoulder; Colleen Sullivan, 30s, Shannon’s maid, pleasant, especially toward Shannon; Dr. Goldberg, male or female, age 30 to 80.
Shannon O’Leary is on his death bed. He is a multimillionaire who knows that his family is just waiting for him to die to see who inherits his fortune. One by one, the “faithful” relatives show up and circle like vultures. Shannon knows this, but still hopes there is at least one who really loves him. His last request is for an authentic Irish wake, a wish that gets fulfilled in Act Two — sort of.
Elyse Ogden McGill will direct the show. Most rehearsals will be held at a location in Seymour. Anyone interested in helping with backstage or technical aspects of the show is invited to attend auditions.
Show dates will be Feb. 14 to 15 and Feb. 20 to 22 at The Pines Evergreen Room.
