While their team lost to Austin in last week’s sectional, Brownstown Central seniors Skylar Thompson and Skylar Luedeman won to extend their season in the doubles sectional on Tuesday night at Seymour.
The Braves duo played Scottsburg’s Tyler White and Braxton Soloe. They met early in the year and the Warriors tandem won pretty easily. This time around, the Braves put up a better fight but still fell 6-4, 7-6 (2) to end their season at 16-5.
“I just think we should have beaten that team,” Thompson said. “We should have won that match, and we had chances. We just didn’t come through.
“It was frustrating to have leads and lose them, and we practiced all week to get ready for them, and we should have had those easy chip shots that we should have completed and never did. We just let it go. I don’t want it to be over because I wanted to keep going and keep advancing. We should be up to the top, but that was a really good team we played.”
Thompson and Luedeman had a 3-2 lead in the first set and Luedeman won serve, but the Warriors won the next three games to take a 5-3 lead. The Braves then made it 5-4, but the Warriors closed out the set with the win.
