Two Jackson County girls basketball teams will tip off sectional play tonight, while the other three drew byes and will play Friday at three different sites.
Tonight, in the 6 p.m. game of the Class A Sectional 61 at Springs Valley, Crothersville (2-18) will take on Orleans (13-7). Following that game, Trinity Lutheran (12-8) will face the host Blackhawks (9-11). In the regular season, the Tigers fell to Orleans 61-25 on Nov. 16 and the Cougars lost to Springs Valley 56-43 on Dec. 8 in the Orleans Tournament.
“I remember (the Bulldogs’) little point guard (Shelby Samsil),” Tigers coach Kevin Hensley said. “She hurt us because she penetrated. We were in a zone, and she just penetrated through that zone. We can’t let them get inside our zone like that, and we have to play a lot smarter defense.
