HENRYVILLE
After suffering disappointing losses in pool play of Saturday’s Henryville Invitational, the Crothersville and Medora volleyball teams bounced back to win their crossover games.
Crothersville finished third by defeating Henryville 25-17, 25-16 and Medora placed fifth by defeating Rock Creek Academy 30-28, 25-19.
In pool play, Crothersville topped Medora 25-21, 25-16 before Lanesville defeated the Tigers 20-25, 25-21, 15-9 and Medora also was defeated by Lanesville 25-13, 25-15.
In the battle for third, the Tigers built up leads of 9-2 and 21-14 to win the first set. The Tigers used a kill by Whitney Wienhorst to take a 21-16 lead in the second set, and they then scored the final four points.
“We finished strong,” Tigers coach Aaron Knieriem said. “Henryville doesn’t have any big hitters, but they keep coming at you, and to beat a team like that is good. We didn’t play as well as we could have against Medora, and we didn’t play well in the second and third sets against Lanesville, and some of that is because we don’t have a lot of tournament experience.”
