Sheriff suspects remains might be missing Austin man

Tribune photo by Aaron Piper/ The Scott County Coroner's Office confirmed Wednesday police found human remains in this building located behind a home on the 500 block of West Main Street in Austin on Tuesday.

Scott County officials suspect a body found in a building in Austin is that of a man who was reported missing three years ago on Thanksgiving Day.

Police said evidence at the scene and statements from a suspect who has not been charged led them to think the body is that of Paul Graupe, who was reported missing by family in November 2009, Scott County Sheriff Daniel McClain said Wednesday.

Graupe’s half brother, Hugh Pasley, said at the time of his disappearance that Graupe, 50, left his house to try to collect a debt from a former co-worker on Nov. 24, 2009, two days before Thanksgiving, but was never seen again.
