Traffic will be shifted this morning on State Road 3 at the new U.S. 50 on the north side of North Vernon, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Both northbound and southbound traffic will be routed to the east side of the roadway, while one-half mile of State Road 3 on the west side is being constructed. A 10-foot width restriction will be enforced through the
The traffic pattern will continue for four weeks. After that, motorists will be redirected to the newly built west side for construction of the east half of State Road 3.
Beginning at 7 a.m. today through Thursday, flaggers will be present to guide drivers around construction crews placing barrier wall and temporary pavement markings.
The State Road 3 intersection with U.S. 50 is at the east end of Phase I (the western section) of the $21.9 million U.S. 50 Bypass Project at North Vernon.
Force Construction, the state’s contractor, is building the northern portion of this section, from County Road 150N to State Road 3. Milestone is under contract to construct the southern portion of the U.S. 50 Bypass, from County Road 400W to County Road 150N.
