Trinity girls make history


It took two overtimes on Saturday, but Trinity Lutheran prevailed against West Washington 72-66 for the school’s first sectional title in girls basketball.

In the championship game of the Class A Sectional 61 at Springs Valley, Trinity’s Haley Couch knocked down a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime.

West Washington’s Shelby Springer made a layup at the end of the first overtime to send the game into another four minutes.

Trinity pulled ahead 71-66 with 23 seconds remaining in the second overtime and went on to pull out the win.

Trinity’s Allison Posey led all scorers with 21 points, while Couch had 16, Hannah Barker added 11 and Kyra Klosterman scored 10.

At noon Saturday, the Cougars (15-8) will play fifth-ranked Northeast Dubois (20-2) in the second game of the West Washington Regional.
